Picture a healthy, vibrant community through a growth-oriented regional economy driven by educational excellence, social mobility and a united view of the future.
Fast-forward to a community that drives strategic change through action. That recognizes the need for transformation. A community that demands results.
The Health of our OneNKY Community is a driving factor for transformation and a key pillar of work for the OneNKY Alliance.
BUILD Health Challenge
A collaborative group of local entities led by Regional Alliance concluded their partnership with the BUILD Health Challenge in 2020 to effect change as it relates to smoking in the city of Covington and Gallatin County. The program launched in 2018 to supply free nicotine replacement therapy kits to residents of Covington and Gallatin County through their local pharmacies. This coincided with a successful campaign to raise awareness on the true costs of smoking and second-hand smoke. Through an innovative data sharing agreement between St. Elizabeth Healthcare and the Northern Kentucky Health Department, the group was able to hot spot specific neighborhoods with a higher population of smokers.
Other key outcomes included:
- 1200 nicotine replacement therapy kits distributed
- 8% of smokers in Covington and 16% of smokers in Gallatin County attempted to quit.
- Over 200 individuals signed up to be Breathe Easy Believer’s.
- 2 million impressions via targeted online media campaign
- New data related to the effects of smoking
The initiative was a partnership between OneNKY Alliance, St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Interact for Health, the Northern Kentucky Health Department, Three Rivers District Health Department, and The Center for Great Neighborhoods, with major funding support coming through a grant from the BUILD Health Challenge, and St. Elizabeth Healthcare.
